Karl Wright's Story

I'm taking on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge in September to raise money and awareness for Cancer Research UK, a charity dedicated to funding life-saving research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. To get an insight of my challenge please see the below video.

I'm taking on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge in September to raise money and awareness for Cancer Research UK, a charity dedicated to funding life-saving research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

To get an insight of my challenge please see the below video.

Every day, scientists, doctors and nurses across the UK are working to find new ways to prevent cancer, diagnose it earlier and develop kinder, more effective treatments. Thanks to decades of pioneering research, cancer survival rates have doubled over the last 50 years - but there is still so much more that can be done to help people today and in the future.

By supporting my challenge, you'll be helping fund the vital research that brings hope to millions of people affected by cancer and moves us closer to a future where more lives are saved.

💙 A donation of £5 could help provide essential lab equipment used in cancer research.

💙 A donation of £10 could help fund the development of new tests and treatments that improve outcomes for patients.

💙 A  donation of £20 could help researchers better understand different types of cancer, leading to more targeted and effective treatments.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks is a demanding 24-mile trek, and every donation, no matter the amount, will make a real difference.

Thank you for your support!

This event is made possible through Midwich's 'Gift of AV' initiative, with all net proceeds being donated to Cancer Research UK.

Walking to Highlodge

So, I needed to find nice route that didn’t involve much road traffic and quickly begun to think if I could hike to highlodge?

Well, apparently I could and it would only be 6 miles… there, and not to mention the 6 miles back too!

This was great as it allowed me to try out some more food and drink strategy.  I was fortunate with the weather again, it was nice and not so nice sunny and warm which meant a quick pit stop at the info desk to get a top up of water before heading back home.

The training session was good and I managed to do a little diversion along the river on the way back through town making my entire journey the same distance as a half marathon, 13.1 miles (I did more than this but of course ;)) in an respectable 3h30 or there about, not too bad for a flatland walk… it’s not going to be that easy in September!

Now I just need to extend my miles, and find a few more hills to add to the mix.

To those who have already donated I thank you all, your support means a lot and goes a long way in helping cancer research uk but also means a lot to me also, thank you.

Let’s see if I can break the target goal for the charity! 😀

Training has started...

Q: What do did you do when you was on holiday? Relaxed? days out on the beach? sunbathed?
A: No.. I walked up mountains as training for an three peak challenge! :D

I spent a week in Yorkshire to test my legs at each of the mountains over the course of the week (I'm not that silly to attempt all 3 in one go! .. not on my own anyway!), the weather was kind but a little too windy to spend hours with the drone in the sky but what I got out of the experience was amazing and hopefully it reflects in the video I made.

I managed to climb each peak and test my strategy, it didnt go too well but it allowed me to try some things and work out what did.

What inspired me the most on my trip was when I met an 85 man who was walking 3 peaks that day!  His walking journey started a few years ago when his newly born grandson was diagnosed with an terminal illness, despite this the family has provided him a fun and exciting life and his granddad walked 4 peaks at the time to raise funds for future research to help others and has not stopped since.

In total that week I walked 21 miles up and over the peaks and had a good flavour of whats to come (its not going to be easy!), now I just need to test my legs for going the extra mile without a days rest in between!

Next up, a walk in the park.. well,  to High Lodge..
