Fundraiser Updates

Walking to Highlodge by Karl Wright

So, I needed to find nice route that didn’t involve much road traffic and quickly begun to think if I could hike to highlodge?

Well, apparently I could and it would only be 6 miles… there, and not to mention the 6 miles back too!

This was great as it allowed me to try out some more food and drink strategy.  I was fortunate with the weather again, it was nice and not so nice sunny and warm which meant a quick pit stop at the info desk to get a top up of water before heading back home.

The training session was good and I managed to do a little diversion along the river on the way back through town making my entire journey the same distance as a half marathon, 13.1 miles (I did more than this but of course ;)) in an respectable 3h30 or there about, not too bad for a flatland walk… it’s not going to be that easy in September!

Now I just need to extend my miles, and find a few more hills to add to the mix.

To those who have already donated I thank you all, your support means a lot and goes a long way in helping cancer research uk but also means a lot to me also, thank you.

Let’s see if I can break the target goal for the charity! 😀

Training has started... by Karl Wright

Q: What do did you do when you was on holiday? Relaxed? days out on the beach? sunbathed?
A: No.. I walked up mountains as training for an three peak challenge! :D

I spent a week in Yorkshire to test my legs at each of the mountains over the course of the week (I'm not that silly to attempt all 3 in one go! .. not on my own anyway!), the weather was kind but a little too windy to spend hours with the drone in the sky but what I got out of the experience was amazing and hopefully it reflects in the video I made.

I managed to climb each peak and test my strategy, it didnt go too well but it allowed me to try some things and work out what did.

What inspired me the most on my trip was when I met an 85 man who was walking 3 peaks that day!  His walking journey started a few years ago when his newly born grandson was diagnosed with an terminal illness, despite this the family has provided him a fun and exciting life and his granddad walked 4 peaks at the time to raise funds for future research to help others and has not stopped since.

In total that week I walked 21 miles up and over the peaks and had a good flavour of whats to come (its not going to be easy!), now I just need to test my legs for going the extra mile without a days rest in between!

Next up, a walk in the park.. well,  to High Lodge..
